Gandalf Murphy and The Slambovian Circus of Dreams

In 1998 The Circus emerged from the misty hills of Sleepy Hollow, New York and exploded upon the Hudson Valley music scene with their stunning self-produced debut release, "A Good Thief Tips His Hat". The quirky quartet then began touring throughout the northeast and rapidly developed a fiercely loyal, all-ages following. Featured recently in Relix Magazine, the New York Times and on the CBS hit show, Joan of Arcadia, the band's charismatic live performances and whimsical blend of folk, rock, hillbilly and pop have simply captivated audiences and critics alike. The New York Swing Exchange

The personnel of this 17-piece orchestra and vocalist are all professional musicians, whose talent and expertise in performing with a big, modern swinging band stems from the background of the individual players. Some of the members are alumni of the "Big Band" era of the 40's, 50's and 60's, coming from the popular New York City scene, as well as the recording industry. Background of others reaches into the music education area of public schools and universities. Add to this the fine vocal work of Maureen Morrissey and it makes a great mix, with everyone benefiting from this artistic diversification. Most of all, what makes this big, swinging band unique is the musician's love of performing as a group, with the great sounds that come from ensemble jazz and swing, as well as beautiful ballads. The sum total of all these ingredients equals toes tapping; fingers snapping; heads swaying; and those happy smiles on the faces of listening audiences as well as the dancers.
